Diagnosis of MS

Diagnosis through Symptoms

As with most diseases, there are symptoms. And, as with many diseases, it is usually a combination of symptoms that help lead to tests that will provide a diagnosis.

Unfortunately, in the case of many persons living with MS, the initial symptoms are infrequent or occur at an early age, then may disappear for several years. This causes many people to ignore certain signs, mistaking them for other things. This is dangerous, as many leading neurologists now say that, in most cases, the earlier therapy is initiated, the better one can control the effects MS has on the body.

It is very important to remember that not all symptoms related to MS may occur, and sometimes it's a combination of just a few. And, unfortunately, even if there are only one or two, they're often not severe enough to be remarkable.

It is also very important to note that these symptoms vary greatly from person to person, and can change as the disease progresses. With most people, early symptoms are seen in young adults, and are often temporary. You should never rely on symptoms alone. The correct diagnosis should come from a doctor qualified to make such diagnoses.

Here are the most common symptoms:

  • Visual Problems
  • Fatigue
  • Speech Problems
  • Sensations/pain
  • Weakness
  • Balance and coordination problems
  • Bladder dysfunction
